Acne usually starts at puberty when increased levels of hormones cause an increase in the size and oil production of glands. Significant hormonal changes can also occur during the later years of life, resulting in increased oil production and congestion through the adult years. Scarring is the result of an abnormal pattern of healing in previously injured skin. Scars occur due to injury to the deeper layers of the skin, the dermis. Depending on the nature of the scarring and the body’s response, scars will be either keloid, hypertrophic (raised) or atrophic (depressed). Essentially, in hypertrophic and keloid scarring, too much collagen is formed whilst in atrophic scars, not enough collagen is generated. A few principles apply to scarring:

Hair Removal
The GentleMax Pro™ is the gold standard for effective hair removal in skin types I-VI, which includes most skin types. The GentleMax Pro™ excels in providing safe, high speed, effective laser hair removal with high patient satisfaction and comfort. Typically, permanent hair removal requires 4-6 treatments, but some patients require more.
Pigmentation
Pigmentation is the colouring of the skin due to an increase of melanin in the affected area. Melanin is the pigment that gives our skin, hair and eyes their colour. The GentleMax Pro™ can effectively remove unwanted brown spots and benign keratosis without scarring. Some spots may require more than one treatment. Excessive pigmentation (also known as hyperpigmentation) is a sign that melanin is abnormally concentrated in one area of the skin. It can be caused by genetics, hormones or overexposure to the sun’s damaging rays. Hyperpigmentation may present as freckles, age spots, or larger patches of darkened skin, often on the hands or face.
This laser is also very effective in the treatment of Seborrhoiec Keratosis or Old Age Warts. The treatments cause a trauma to the skin resulting in these often itchy and irritated lesions falling off with minimal to no scarring.
Vascularity
The GentleMax Pro™ can also treat diffused sun damage which is often seen on the face, neck, chest and arms. Depending on the extent of sun damage, a series of treatments may be necessary, but significant improvement is seen with each treatment.
The GentleMax Pro™ can treat the background redness and broken blood vessels on the cheeks, nose and chin. Because the background redness and broken blood vessels are a result of broken blood vessels, you should expect to have some redness, swelling and possible bruising for several days after the treatment. We suggest that you do not take aspirin or NSAIDS (ibuprofen, Aleve, Advil, Motrin Meloxicam, Celebrex) for 1 week prior to your procedure if medically allowable. We do not advise any patient to stop any blood thinners for this procedure without first consulting a medical professional.

Is the Nordlys/Laser Light treatment safe?
Yes. It is completely safe. The Ellipse Nordlys is a 2nd generation laser system utilising a patented ‘dual mode filtering’ system, which removes all unnecessary and potentially harmful wavelengths. The Nordlys has pre-programmed treatment suggestions for different skin and hair types thus allowing the energy levels to be adjusted for the client’s individual needs.
How does the Nordlys IPL work for Skin Rejuvenation?
Age spots and hyper pigmentation contains melanin and diffuse redness contains haemoglobin. The light is absorbed by the melanin in the pigmented area & the heat reaction caused breaks down the melanin in the keratinocytes. A photo toxic reaction occurs in the melanin vesicles and the excess melanin turns darker before it comes away from the skin. The light is also absorbed by the superficial blood vessels in the skin. The heat reaction caused coagulates blood vessels, destroys protein in the wall of the vessel and stimulates collagen production. We can treat sun damaged skins.
On average 1-3 treatments at 4 week intervals are needed for the best results. Top up treatments may be needed in the future to maintain these results.
What results can I expect using Nordlys IPL treatments?
Excess pigmentation and diffuse redness will dramatically reduce and skin texture and pore size will improve. The pigmentation will become darker in colour immediately after the treatment. A few days after the treatment the pigmented areas will develop a light crust (this is a good sign that the treatment has worked). After that the skin will look smoother and fresher. A few more treatment sessions may be required to keep a smooth and youthful appearance.
How does the Nordlys IPL treatment work when treating Facial Thread Veins?
The light is attracted to the oxy-haemoglobin in the blood. As the light is absorbed by the blood in the vessels a heat reaction is caused which coagulates the blood and destroys protein in the wall of the vessel. The vessel then breaks down and the debris is removed by the body’s natural waste disposal system.
Slight redness is seen immediately the treatment and this will disappear in 1-2 hours or in some cases a few days. A blurring of the vessel is often apparent after treatment, normally followed by a variable degree of swelling. The swelling may last up to 4 days and may appear puffy, particularly around the eyes. These are all signs of inflammation and are an indication of successful treatment.
On average 2-4 treatments with 4-6 week intervals are needed for the best results.
The cosmelan® method has been designed to reduce the appearance of blemishes caused by excess melanin in the skin. These blemishes have various origins from genetics to ethnicity, gender, pregnancy, oral contraceptive use, menopause, and so on. The sun is also a triggering factor that can increase the incidence of newly appearing blemishes and the reappearance of blemishes already established.

Treatments are available to soften lines through the face, neck and decolletage by reducing the muscles ability to perform expressive movements. When movements in the face are less expressive, the lines are gradually softened.
Other treatment options are used to restore the volume changes in our face that come with age. As our skin ages, the skin gradually loses its stretch elements (collagen and elastin) and its volume (hyaluronic acid and fat pads). Volume loss can result in laxity and sagging through the skin. How does PDO Mono Thread work?
Insertion of multiple Polydioxanone (PDO) mono threads creates a vectorial network, that acts as a support network for the skin tissue. The mono insertion provides an immediate visible tightening effect whilst stimulating our natural collagen production within the skin. This then stimulates skin rejuvenation, bringing vitality, elasticity and brighter skin tone and improves the appearance of minor wrinkles, nasolabial folds and saggy skin. Effective in both facial and body treatments.
The embedded threads are gradually reabsorbed over a period of 3-4 months via biological absorption or hydrolysis.
The mono threads produce and increase collagen around the threads. Although the effects are immediately apparent, maximum tension is reached sometime later (between 2-3 months).
The results are long-lasting rejuvenation of the skin and subcutaneous tissue, which delays the natural ageing process by at least 9-12 months.
The Process
What can I expect when having a PDO Mono Thread Treatment?
Your doctor will apply a topical anaesthetic numbing cream at least 30 minutes prior to treatment or use anaesthetic injections to numb the area to ensure minimal discomfort.
The treatment will take about 30 minutes, however this will depend on the number of threads used and the treatment area to be covered.
Bruising, swelling and small lumps can occur, which are normal reactions to the treatment. this should alleviate in approximately 2 weeks.
What to expect after treatment?
PDO Mono treatments are relatively risk-free, however most patients can expect a degree of bruising and some discomfort around the injected area(s).
Around 10% of patients may experience unwanted side effects a few days after receiving the treatment including headaches and in extremely rare cases, nausea and flu-like symptoms.
How quickly will I see the effects of the injection and how long will the results last?
An improvement may be observed immediately after treatment with a visible plumping effect in the treated areas.
This will improve over a period of 2-6 months as new collagen is produced between the threads, thereby exerting further tightening to the skin.
Mono threads dissolve within approx. 2- months, however they induce new collagen by release of growth factors and fibroblast activation which can last for 6 months- 1 year depending on the client’s condition.
Retreatment is recommended at approx. 3-6 months to achieve your best initial results.
PDO Mono Thread Post Treatment Care Recommendations
LED light treatment can be applied immediately after to reduce bruising.
Ice can be applied for a few hours post treatment to help reduce swelling and inflammation and Paracetamol can be taken if required.
Avoid sudden movements, opening the mouth too widely, laughing vigorously or any other stimulation of the facial muscles over the next few days.
Sleep face up. Avoid sleeping on your side or face down for 2-3 days post procedure.
The area should not be massaged for the first month.
The treated area should be washed gently after 4-5 hours.
Avoid sauna and sources of heat.
The use of any makeup on the treated areas should be avoided for the first 3 days.

How it works
Your blood is drawn into specific vials and placed in a specialised centrifuge device. From here, we extract the most nutrient rich properties (the platelets and plasma), then use superficial injections to place these natural substances back into the skin or area of concern. These platelets release important growth factors, which instruct other cells on what work needs to be done (e.g. form new collagen) and help to treat a wide range of concerns.
Optimising your results
Depending on the size of the area, along with the desired results, we recommend 2-3 treatments at 6-12 weeks apart. Dermal needling with PRP can help to enhance the results.
As with normal medical guidelines, a healthy diet, minimal caffeine and alcohol and adequate sleep will allow your body the best chance for a good outcome. We also recommend following our pre and post treatment guidelines.
For clients treating hair loss, please be aware that the PRP application is not a “quick fix” and is meant to be used as part of a comprehensive hair rejuvenation program supervised by your GP, specialist or dedicated cosmetic / hair clinic. PDT is a unique way of treating sun-damaged, oily, blemished and aged skin on all areas of the body. It is most commonly used by Doctors to treat early stage skin cancers and skin conditions. Some patients prefer this treatment to an excision in a cosmetically sensitive area.
A naturally occurring substance known as ALA is applied to the affected area where it is absorbed into the abnormal or damaged cells. After an incubation period, the area is exposed to a light source where these abnormal skin cells are destroyed. After a period of peeling and healing, the results are fresh healthy skin cells, less acne, less sun damage and improved skin texture.

PDT provides cosmetic results for sun damaged and aged skin, redness, blemishes, large pores, oily skin, fine lines and skin discolouration. PDT is also very effective in bringing new life to aged skin in areas that in the past have been hard to treat such as the décolletage, arms, scalp, hands and legs.
How does PDT work?
ALA, a photo-active substance, made naturally by the human body, is applied to the affected area. When applied to the skin, this substance is absorbed into all cells. Healthy cells are able to naturally process the solution leaving them unharmed. Unhealthy, abnormal and damaged cells are unable to synthesise the solution leaving them to continue absorbing over the incubation period until they are full. Once absorbed, a light source is focused on the treatment area for a period of 10-20 minutes. When exposed to the light, the abnormal skin cells are destroyed causing an extensive reaction of heat, redness and inflammation in the skin. After a typical healing period of 2 weeks, the treated area reveals new, fresh, healthy skin cells.
How to optimising your PDT results?
To get the best results from PDT, a pre treatment regime should be followed for 2-4 weeks prior to the treatment date to allow for maximum absorbtion of the solution through adequate exfoliation of the inactive skin cells.
Following a consistent homecare routine post treatment can aid in maintaining results and improving skin health and function.
